Success Story: DP World

Revolutionizing Global Logistics with Oracle WMS Cloud + FlexiPro

CHALLENGE

Since its inception in 1972 with a single port in Dubai, DP World has emerged as the forefront provider of smart logistics solutions, revolutionizing the global trade flow. With operations spanning over 60 countries across all continents, DP World has diversified its portfolio to encompass various products and services, seamlessly integrating into every aspect of modern life. From managing ports and logistics hubs to facilitating maritime services and operating trucking companies, DP World has become synonymous with efficiency and reliability in the logistics industry.

As DP World continues to spearhead innovation and excellence in the logistics industry, its journey from a single port in Dubai to a global logistics giant is a testament to its unwavering dedication to customer satisfaction, operational excellence, and technological advancement. With a focus on providing seamless services and enhancing efficiency at every stage of the supply chain, DP World remains at the forefront of shaping the future of global trade.

In its pursuit of operational excellence and customer satisfaction, DP World encountered several key challenges and selected Oracle WMS Cloud and Intellinum FlexiPro to revolutionize its logistics processes

OBJECTIVES

  • Limited Image Capturing: The inability to capture multiple images at each transaction level hampers documentation accuracy and operational visibility, posing challenges in tracking and documenting shipments.
  • Incomplete Pallet Visibility: DP World faces difficulties in accurately tracking received pallets and determining the remaining quantity during shipment reception, leading to potential inefficiencies and inaccuracies in inventory management.
  • Load Shipment Screen Enhancement: The absence of essential data fields such as Trailer Number and derived Load Number based on specific business logic inhibits efficient load management and tracking within DP World’s operations.
  • License Plate Number (LPN) Management: The need to split License Plate Numbers (LPNs) with reference to old LPNs underscores challenges in inventory management and traceability, necessitating streamlined processes for accurate record-keeping.
  • Visibility of Bundles Scanned: The lack of visibility into the number of bundles scanned versus the total bundles in the receiving area presents challenges in inventory reconciliation and accuracy assessment, potentially leading to discrepancies in stock levels.
  • Transit Note Receiving: Inadequate visibility of truck numbers during transit note receiving complicates cargo tracking and assignment, impeding efficient logistics operations and potentially causing delays or errors.
  • Order-Based Picking: The absence of order-based picking functionality, wherein users can enter order numbers directly, hinders efficiency and accuracy in fulfillment operations, necessitating improvements in order processing workflows.
  • Appointment-Based Loading: The lack of support for loading based on appointment numbers poses challenges in scheduling and executing loading activities efficiently, potentially leading to delays and disruptions in the supply chain.

Addressing these challenges is crucial for DP World to enhance operational efficiency, improve customer service, and maintain its position as a leader in the global logistics industry. By implementing innovative solutions that address these pain points, DP World can streamline its operations, increase visibility, and deliver exceptional value to its customers worldwide.

SOLUTION

As a current Oracle Transportation Management Cloud (OTM) Customer, DP World was no stranger to the transformational capabilities of a leading logistics solution and decided to implement Oracle WMS Cloud to harmonize their operations further and benefit from an integrated TMS/WMS. With the addition of Intellinum FlexiPro, DP World now has a comprehensive mobile solution to revolutionize its global operations.

Integrating FlexiPro for Oracle WMS Cloud yielded significant improvements in DP World’s warehouse operations, resulting in streamlined processes and enhanced inventory transaction speed on a day-to-day basis. Following the implementation, DP World has observed the following key outcomes:

  • Streamlined Warehouse Operations: Implementing the FlexiPro mobile applications for Oracle WMS Cloud streamlined warehouse operations, resulting in increased efficiency and reduced processing times for inventory transactions.
  • Enhanced Image Management: The new feature allows for the upload of individual or bulk images to the server based on transaction number and License Plate Number (LPN). DP World now benefits from improved accessibility to crucial documentation, facilitating smoother operations and enhanced record-keeping.
  • Improved Pallet Visibility: By incorporating new fields into the mobile application, DP World has achieved total visibility of pallets within its warehouse, enabling more accurate inventory tracking and management.
  • Enhanced LPN Management: By implementing custom logic, DP World can efficiently split License Plate Numbers (LPNs) with reference to old numbers, facilitating seamless inventory management and traceability.
  • Efficient Order and Appointment-Based Operations: Introducing new screens for picking by Order Number and loading by Appointment Number has enhanced operational efficiency and accuracy, allowing DP World to fulfill orders more efficiently and optimize loading schedules.

RESULTS

Implementing Oracle WMS Cloud and FlexiPro has substantially improved DP World’s operations, significantly enhancing efficiency, clarity, and task management. The key outcomes observed after the implementation include:

  • Real-Time Image Capture: DP World can now seamlessly complete transactions at each level of operations by utilizing real-time image capture capabilities. This functionality improves documentation accuracy and enhances transparency and accountability throughout the supply chain.
  • Enhanced Transaction Clarity: By incorporating additional fields, users can perform transactions more clearly and precisely. These supplementary fields provide users with comprehensive information, enabling them to make informed decisions and execute tasks more effectively.
  • Location-Wise Task Management: The user interface now features location-wise task lists, giving users a clear overview of tasks specific to each location. Alongside information such as SKU, shipment details, and quantity, this structured approach enhances task management and facilitates efficient resource allocation.

The significance of Oracle WMS Cloud and FlexiPro on DP World’s operations cannot be overstated. These solutions have had a transformative impact on the company’s operations, enabling seamless transactions, faster decision-making, and improved task management capabilities. DP World is leveraging advanced features and functionalities to optimize its processes, enhance operational efficiency, and deliver world-class service to customers across the globe.
